Update: NBW's Summer Cycling Day Camp is now full and registration is closed.  We've notified everyone who is registered or wait-listed, and we look forward to a fun and rewarding camp this summer!

About Our Camp

Neighborhood Bike Works (NBW) has offered a Summer Cycling Day Camp since 2002. Our popular camp offers youth ages 8-14 the opportunity to recondition and earn a bike, helmet, and lock in just two weeks! Campers complete the Earn-A-Bike curriculum, participate in fun outdoor activities, go on educational field trips, and learn about safe cycling, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. Campers will explore treasured Philadelphia landmarks as well as the art, science, and history surrounding them! Click here to view a sample schedule from last year.

We travel to and from all field trip by bike. Campers must know how to ride a bike, and be able to ride for 20 minutes without a break. NBW will provide your child with a helmet and bike to ride until they have finished refurbishing their own bike. After completing Summer Camp, your child may participate in the additional programs available to all NBW graduates.

Registration Schedule

Thursday, April 20, 2017: NBW will email all guardians who have submitted an application on behalf of their child(ren). We'll let you know whether your child(ren) are enrolled in a camp session or have been placed on our waitlist.

Thursday, June 1, 2017: Summer Camp tuition deadline.

Additionally, there will be two dates of a mandatory parent orientation in mid-June for which all parents/guardians must attend one session. Details will be provided once your child is registered.

2017 Camp Session Dates

Your child may join one of the four camp sessions offered. Each session is limited to 12 campers. Camp is Monday-Friday for two consecutive weeks, with a full day schedule of 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Campers can enroll in only one session.

Session 1: Monday July 3 - Friday, July 14

Session 2: Monday, July 17 - Friday, July 28

Session 3: Monday, July 31 - Friday, August 11

Session 4: Monday, August 14 - Friday, August 25

*NOTE: Session 1 will be 9 days total because NBW will be closed in observance of the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 4, 2016.

Cost

Session 1: $575

Sessions 2-4: $625

A $50 deposit is required to reserve a spot in camp.

* Session 1 is less than Sessions 2, 3 & 4 because camp will be closed in observance of Independence day (July 4)

The fee includes trip admission fees, a reconditioned bicycle, helmet, lock, t-shirt, breakfast and lunch. Although our after-school classes are always free of cost, Summer Camp carries a fee because of additional staffing and field trip costs.

Scholarship Policy

In an effort to stay true to our mission we offer full and partial discounts to families who would otherwise not be able to attend camp.  We reserve a certain number of spots in our camp for families who express a need for full or partial scholarship. This allows families to pay between $50 - $625 based on their degree of need. We depend on the discretion of the applicant to decide the degree of their need before they apply. Please remember that those who can pay - even a portion - will help make it possible for those who cannot. Whether or not you are receiving a scholarship, we ask that every applicant submit a deposit. The deposit will be returned to any family that is not enrolled in a camp session.

Neighborhood Bike Works is committed to providing youth bicycle education to all individuals regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation or identity.

How to Sign Up

All families must complete the NBW camp application to have the chance for enrollment. Due to the popularity of the NBW cycling camp, we cannot guarantee that all youth who apply will be enrolled in a camp session. We will contact caretakers by April 20th to let them know if their child(ren) have been enrolled in a camp session or placed on our waitlist. Please reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or (215) 386-0316 to follow up on your application or if you have additional questions.

We recognize that our past “first come, first serve” policy has made it difficult for all families to have the same access to camp, therefore, no enrollment priority will be given for early application submission.
