About the Program
Neighborhood Bike Works (NBW) has offered Summer Cycling Day Camp at our 40th Street Shop since 2002 and a half-day Summer Camp at our North Philly Shop since 2011. Our popular camp offers youth, ages 8-14 the opportunity to recondition and earn a bike, helmet, and lock in just two weeks! Youth complete the Earn-A-Bike curriculum, participate in fun outdoor activities, go on educational field trips and learn about safe cycling, nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Classes are limited to 12 campers per session. Campers MUST already know how to ride a bike and MUST be able to ride a bike for 20 minutes without a break.
NBW's Summer Camp is jam packed with activities that are fun and educational. Whether it is a half-day or full-day camp, you can be assured that your child is bound to have a unique experience, will make new friends, and will be introduced to plenty of learning opportunities through our notable bicycle education program and dynamic field trips that include science, art, history, and exploring treasured Philadelphia landmarks. All of our field trips are travelled to and from by bike! NBW will provide your child with a helmet and bike to use for the trips while s/he works on repairing the bike that s/he will earn. How to Register Your Child for Summer Camp
All application materials are available on our website and in our shops. Please download the materials under the North Philly or 40th Street camps above. Please take note of the session available dates as some sessions tend to fill up quickly. All materials and the deposit must be received at the 40th Street Shop (3916 Locust Walk Philadelphia, PA 19104) either in person or by mail in order for your child to be registered. Registration is First Come, First Serve.
Wait List
Our camps tend to fill up quickly. In order to reserve a spot, your non-refundable deposit is due at the time that you submit your application materials. If your first choice session is filled up, you have the option of signing up for a different session or being placed on the wait list. You must still send all application materials as well as the deposit to Neighborhood Bike Works. We will keep all materials on hold as well as the deposit. In the case that there is a space available, we will contact you immediately. If your child is not able to enroll in Summer Camp, we will refund the deposit.
Financial Aid-Policy
In an effort to stay true to our mission to provide youth from underserved neighborhoods of Philadelphia with great opportunities through cycling, we offer full and partial scholarships to families who would otherwise not be able to attend camp. This year, Neighborhood Bike Works is able to provide a limited number of FULL or PARTIAL scholarships based on family need. The application process is simple so we depend on the discretion of the applicant to decide the degree of their need before they apply. Please remember that those who can pay - even a portion - will help make it possible for those who cannot. We believe this is what makes NBW summer camp so special. Whether or not you are receiving financial aid, we ask that everyone submit a non-refundable deposit.
Neighborhood Bike Works is committed to providing youth bicycle education to all individuals regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation or identity.
